Columbus + Charleston + Winston-Salem

Below are some pictures from the past few evenings and some stories about the people and times we had. I unfortunately didn't get any photos from Columbus (phone was dead). We played at Spacebar with our friends Queer Kevin (a two piece band with heavy bass-lines and emotive and beautiful melodies), as well as the local rock bands Keating (kinda funky fun piano pop), and RUINR (expressively fronted badass three piece group). We had a great time, stayed with our bud Steven King-and had a beautiful drive through the hills of West Virginia the next day! Wish I had photos to share with ya'll.

This is a pic from the other night at The Loving Touch taken by Khriscinda Granaas. They are one of my favorite photographers in the Detroit Metro Area.

We played at a really cool spot called Kin-Ship Goods in Charleston. The whole day was great---we chatted on the radio, hung out with Dan and Hillary (our friends and the brilliant minds behind Kin-Ship Goods) and played a really fun show with Charleston's local favorite band (and one of ours as well) Static Fur. Static Fur's keyboard player Scott, and his partner Jodie make really delicious fermented foods and let us try some of their tart kombucha and slightly spicy pickles.

Kin Ship Goods--- we played in the back room of the store that is filled with t-shirt pressing equipment, art, and christmas lights. It was super vibey and lovely.

Last night we played in Winston-Salem, a small town with lots of character. The spot we played was called Test Pattern, and the bartender-Katlyn, and Jeff the sound engineer were super hospitable. Honey Coma- a band we met in Buffalo- hopped on the bill and killed it with their emotional rock ballades. We met a lot of really cool people- some film makers, a woman named Brinn who runs a feminist music festival at the bar in town, and some big-hearted strangers who filmed our entire set. As we were walking out I got called a "cold hearted bitch" by a stranger who hadn't seen our set, which was kinda funny. After asking why, he finally muttered something about how I was wearing all black, and that he was ALSO cold-hearted. I told him I just thought he was a bit judgmental.. haha. In any case, now I have a cool new nick-name:: Kate Cold-hearted-bitch-Wakefield. Don't mess with me- I might freeze your SOUL! Even with all that craziness at the end of the night, it was still a great evening, and a memorable one at that.
