Driving out of New York

We always take the same route out of New York City and almost always leave late at night. We drive through crowded and noisy Brooklyn, then drive through the streets of Manhattan-which always looks oddly festive and polished after BK-and then to Jersey. It is strange how quickly you get to vast freeways with almost a Midwest vibe. It's like you blink and you're out of the city-and when we travel to play shows in NYC we are there and gone so fast it feels like a dream.

I'm writing this as I ride passenger (don't worry, I don't blog and drive). The show tonight was cello themed. Gabby, from the band Algebra II, set the whole thing up to be a night of only cello based bands. She called it COACELLO-after Coacella-which is kind of brilliant. Any cello player would get a kick out of that. All the bands were great! Invisible Candy and Laura Wolf played as well. The bar was also having a Halloween dance party in the neighboring room to the show, and it was fun to feel the energy from both the show and the party mix.

Right now we are headed to Philadelphia.

I haven't been updating the blog as much as usual. We've been on the road for about 2 weeks this run. Honestly there has just been so much crap going on in the world that my mind has been focused on and none of it seems very fun, easy or upbeat to post about.  All of the news with Trump trying to take away birthright citizenship, all of the senseless hateful shootings that take place daily in this country, the blatant racism and sexism imbedded in society's core, and the lack of power all of us regular people have weighs heavy. All I can do is vote and try to do my part-whatever that is. Still figuring that part out but I feel like we all are.

..........

Now it is morning as I finish this post. I'm splurging on some black Mc Donald's coffee in a Walmart somewhere in Jersey. The things that are going on in the world are truly awful but there is something grounding about sitting in a Walmart Mc Donald's, listening to everyone go about their day to day lives. And so it goes!

Today we are heading to Philadelphia. I truly love Philadelphia and am excited to be back in it for a day. We play a cd release show for our buds in Impressionist.

Hoping you all are hanging in there//enjoying the fall wherever you are.

Love

Kate

Our friend June broke a string at our Baltimore show and used my cello instead. Her band Hereditary Disappointment was so so heavy and amazing. Also she was dressed up as Carrie covered in fake (?) blood. Love this person.

Friends from Tart and Volk after Zee played the last set of the night in Detroit. She played on the heaven stage and there was lots of large white cotton fluffs decorating the stage.  Daisy started a snow ball fight with it and the set was raucous and the perfect end to the night.
