So it's 1 AM and we are just getting back from a great show in Tacoma with Are they Brothers and Klondike Kate. We are staying with my brother in Redmond and it is SO NICE to have a familiar spot to come home to for our Washington dates.
TODAY HAS BEEN LONG and at times hilarious/ridiculous. We have FULLY experienced Washington traffic. My brother told us at around 1 PM this afternoon that we might want to head out a little early to get to the show in Tacoma. Redmond to Tacoma is about 45 miles-ish. We decided we would leave at 2:30, and get to Tacoma insanely early to avoid traffic. We ended up taking the same detours that everyone's google-map-app's re-routed them to take and the drive took FOUR HOURS. FOUR HOURS!!!! Part of that was due to getting stuck on a small ROAD BETWEEN TWO PARKED TRAINS (this actually happened. We drove back and forth for fun between the two because. what else are you supposed to do when that happens?).
Anyway. The show was cool. Tacoma is an under appreciated Washington city filled with great music, nice people, and lots of hole-in-the-wall bars and restaurants. The bands we played with were fantastic! Side note-- As I was walking around Tacoma before the show I noticed a chain of drive-through coffee shops that is bikini themed. I think it was called Bikini Espresso. I didn't check it out because I was caffeinated and I thought it would be awkward to go to a coffee shop where everyone isn't really wearing shirts, but who am I to bash how people enjoy their espresso. I think it's like Hooters with coffee? Just think it's an interesting/bizarre Pacific Northwest phenomenon. Has anyone been to one of these places? Do men and women work in bikinis there? Is it as weird as I'm imagining?
On the way back after the show, we stopped and got a giant box of doughnuts. Life was pretty close to perfect for the drive back. For one thing, we were not in bumper to bumper traffic. And we had doughnuts. There was a fun part of the drive back where Rachelle and I both exclaimed at the same time, "Seattle! Look how pretty you are!" and whipped out our cell phones to take pictures only to be laughed at by Daisy. It was Bellevue not Seattle. But whatever. Bellevue has a lovely skyline as well. And we are very very tired.
Tomorrow we play Olympia. Good night!
